BFA Professional Photography
Russell A. McConnell earned his AS in Liberal Arts Studies at Monroe Community College in 1979, his BS in Resource Management/General Forestry from the S.U.N.Y. College of Environmental Science & Forestry in 1982, and his MA in Photography from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 1992.
Russ’ photographic career has ranged from owning a commercial studio in New York for 15 years to now working predominately with hospitality, focusing on the photography of high-end resorts and spas. He also continues to do a lot of editorial magazine work, with cover stories produced for Log Home Living and This Old House magazines.
Russ has developed a rather cutting-edge lighting style for photographing architecture that has been noted in magazine articles and photography texts as well. Russ continues to shoot commercially despite teaching full-time because he loves to bring his real-world photography experiences into the classroom, feeling they provide something unique for his students.
Russ also enjoys fine art photography and had a recent image selected by world-renowned photographer Joyce Tenneson for her book and traveling exhibition, “The View Project.” Russ has been teaching for 16 years in the following areas: architectural photography, lifestyle, commercial, still life, advertising, and people photography.
