Barbara Obermeier earned her BA in Communication Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1982 and her MBA from California Lutheran University 1986. Barb is principal of Obermeier Design, a graphic design studio in Ventura, Calif.

Her clients include both national and regional companies from a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, telecommunications, insurance, construction, entertainment and performing arts. Her work encompasses several areas of design including publication/editorial, corporate identity and branding, direct mail and advertising. She’s the author or co-author of over two dozen publications, including Photoshop CS6 All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies, Photoshop Elements 10 For Dummies, Photoshop Elements 10 All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies How-to-Wow with Illustrator, and Digital Photography Just the Steps For Dummies. Her books are frequently in the Top 50 Tech Books according to Nielsen Book Scan, and she has sold over 700,000 copies across all titles and editions.

She also served as Co-Chair of Education for AIGA Santa Barbara from 2009 to 2011. Barb has been an adjunct faculty member in the Graphic Design program at Brooks Institute for eight years and has also taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara; California Lutheran University; Ventura College and several private training facilities.

Barb received the First Quarter 2007 Service Award for outstanding teaching and service to students at Brooks Institute and was nominated for Faculty Member of the Year 2008 in Professional Development and in 2011 for Student Success. Her areas of expertise are Publication and Editorial Design, Identity Design, Digital Imaging and Illustration, Portfolio Development and Senior Seminar, Typography, Prepress and Production.
