April 18, 2013
Join us Thursday, April 18, at 5 p.m. for the exhibit opening and reception for “Today I Will Not Lie,” the Brooks student exhibit on South Africa. This event will take place at Visions Gallery, 2055 E. Harbor Blvd. in Ventura. Watch the preview of the multimedia project’s documentary piece below:
This event is part of the culmination of months of work that began last fall for the documentary class, one of various opportunities Brooks students have to study abroad. In September and October 2012, 13 students spent six weeks in South Africa with Visual Journalism instructor Anacleto Rapping chronicling the people, life and culture of the region. Since then, they’ve been working on several projects to document their trip, including a website, multi-media presentation, print exhibits and a DVD.
Each year, Brooks Institute offers this documentary trip in a different international location, which in recent years has included Vietnam, Chile, France, India and Ireland. Students must apply to participate and are selected based on a solid understanding of photographic story-telling, the ability to work independently, and who reflect sensitivity to their roles as ambassadors.
