Congratulations to Kayla Pence, who’s been awarded a 2013 North American Nature Photography Summit (NANPA) scholarship. The scholarship will allow Kayla, a student in the Brooks Professional Photography program, to attend and participate in the NANPA Summit in Florida later this month, where she will have the opportunity to connect with a host of prominent nature photographers and scientists.
The annual summit is a very competitive program, and only 12 college students from across the country received this scholarship. As part of the application process, Kayla submitted a portfolio – see two of the images that helped her earn this scholarship below.
The students will be able to attend different sessions during the summit as well as have portfolio reviews from leading professionals. Those participating come from various backgrounds including biology, ecology, evolutionary studies, psychology, photojournalism and computer science and are at various levels of studies ranging from sophomores to grad students who are finishing up their thesis documents. The students will arrive two days before the summit beginning to participate in a conservation project for the North Florida Land Trust on Big Talbot Island. They will share their project in a formal presentation to the entire conference that Saturday evening.
