FOURTEEN MILLION COPIES OF BROOKS STUDENTS’ IMAGES
TO BE DISTRIBUTED THIS WINTER BY THE TERRITORY AHEAD

In Addition to the Wide Exposure, Selected Students will Receive Scholarships

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - (December 10, 2007) - Brooks Institute announced today that several of its students’ images will be distributed this winter as part of The Territory Ahead’s winter marketing campaign and the release of its seasonal catalog. The company’s mail distribution reaches fourteen million customers.

The images were selected from a photography scholarship competition created earlier this year by the national clothing retailer and Brooks Institute. In need of new, fresh, photography for its 2007 winter catalog, The Territory Ahead solicited Brooks Institute’s students for help. “We decided what better way to help our local community than by supporting the budding careers of young, local photographers? Stunning photography plays a major role in the creation of our catalogs, so the partnership just made sense,” said Chris Henry, Editorial Image Coordinator for The Territory Ahead and a Brooks alumna.

Originally the company planned to select ten photographs and award an equal number of tuition scholarships. However, company officials were so impressed with the submissions they instead selected 16 photographs and awarded a total of $8,000 in scholarships to ten students. Brooks student, Kevin Osborn, lead the pack having five pictures selected, collecting $2,500 in tuition scholarship money. The other scholarship recipients include:

Daniel Santoso
Nicholas Draney
Matt Weiss
Kevin Osborn
Kathleen Gaylen
Jessica Beilstein
Jason Bean
Freeman Stevens
Chris Reis
Simon Cordova

Due to the success of this year’s program, The Territory Ahead has decided to make the winter stock photography competition an annual event. The contest for 2008 is already in full force.

The photographers whose images are selected will again be awarded a $500 tuition scholarship for each photo selected. The winners may be used in the company’s 2008 catalogs. Additional compensation will be awarded should one of the student submissions be selected for a catalog cover.

As part of their research, students are urged to look at the kinds of pictures The Territory Ahead uses in its publications. This pre-submission research mirrors the work professional photographers do and allows students to apply classroom lessons to this real world publishing opportunity.

For the competition, students are asked to submit images showing colorful rustic holiday images that symbolize the outdoors. Students retain ownership of the pictures and grant one-time usage rights to the company. For more information about the contest and to see the winning images, visit: http://www.territoryahead.com.
