LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS TO ACCOMPANY BROOKS INSTITUTE GRAPHIC DESIGN STUDENT SHOW SANTA BARBARA, California – September 21, 2007 – Two live demos by Brooks Institute faculty members will accompany a wide range of work by students in the school's Graphic Design program. The display at the Brooks Cota Street building will be held October 4 from 5 - 8 pm as part of the Santa Barbara 1st Thursday art and culture event. Drawing instructor Rick Reason will sketch a live model in the building lobby, using hand drawing techniques artists and designers use for both conceptual development and finished illustrations. Reason is a well established commercial illustrator who has worked for some of the largest companies in the entertainment industry, including ABC, NBC, HBO, Disney, Universal, ESPN, Showtime, Random House, Washington Post and more. He has worked in both L.A. and N.Y.C. and has won numerous awards. Brooks Institute instructor Barbara Obermeier will demonstrate modern digital techniques with Photoshop software.. Using a computer and lobby video screen she will demonstrate photography retouching techniques and then incorporate the finished photo into a magazine cover design. Obermeier, a graphic designer, has written several books including Photoshop CS3 All-in-One Desk References for Dummies for Wiley Publishing and How to Wow with Illustrator for Peachpit Press. The first floor gallery will showcase examples of student work by Brooks Institute graphic design majors. Student work includes all facets of design including identity, packaging, posters, environmental, publications and Web and motion graphics.
