BROOKS INSTITUTE SPONSORS HIGH SCHOOL VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS WORKSHOP
BROOKS AFTER HOURS

Santa Barbara, California -- August 8, 2007 — High school students can enhance their back-to-school experience this fall through a series of free visual communication workshops at Brooks Institute.

A new program called, “Brooks After Hours” invites high school students to attend evening computer and drawing classes for no charge on the Brooks Institute Ventura campus. Both courses will be taught by well known instructors in the Brooks Visual Communication program.

An introductory Photoshop class will be taught in a Brooks Institute computer lab by Barbara Obermeier, author of several books on the Photoshop, Illustrator and Power Point programs. She has written several books for the “Dummies” series designed to introduce students to the basics of Photoshop.

The Photoshop program was a logical first course to offer according to Brooks Visual Communication program director Lloyd Sigler. “Photoshop is really a popular program. Everyone in the world does this now,” he said. “The new CS3 version (of Photoshop) is just out so this ties in nicely with that.” Obermeier has recently completed a new book on the latest Photoshop version.

Commercial illustrator Rick Reason will teach a beginning drawing class. Students will be introduced to pencil and charcoal drawing on paper. Projects will involve perspective, shading and head drawing. “This is a low key introduction to drawing designed to expand high school student’s skills,” said Sigler.

Reason has worked as an illustrator for many entertainment companies, televisions networks and print publications in New York and Los Angeles.

Both courses are offered to current high school students in a series of five Monday evenings from 7 – 9 pm. Space is limited to 25 students in each course.

Offering courses at night, as well as offering courses to the high school community, are two new ventures for Brooks Institute. The fall program is the first step in this direction. “What we’d like to do is have this happen every session,” said Sigler.

Additional information on the courses and registration may be obtained by calling Lloyd Sigler, Visual Communications program chair, at 805-585-8038. He may also be reached at lsigler@brooks.edu.

The Brooks Institute Ventura campus is located of Highway 33 at 1501 North Ventura Avenue, Ventura, CA 93001.
