BROOKS INSTITUTE PRESENTS "BROOKS INSTITUTE SPOTLIGHT"
Students bring a student production to cable access television

VENTURA, Calif. – (July 12, 2010) – "Brooks Institute Spotlight" premiered on Community Access Partners of San Buenaventura (CAPS) Channel 6. This series was developed by students to highlight the journey of filmmakers, both seasoned and emerging, from the Brooks Institute community.

Director and film student Gregory Zobel with the support of director of photography and visual journalism student Hannah Singleton, film editor and student Hayden Johnson, as well as a group of student and faculty volunteers filmed approximately five one-hour episodes of the cable access show.

"Here on the 'Brooks Institute Spotlight,' it's our goal to bring forward local Ventura and Brooks film makers to the community and highlight their work," said Zobel "What we're doing here in Ventura is really amazing, and we want to show our community what we're up to. Local people will want to tune into this show because high-caliber films are being made right in our back yard."

Among the lineup of student and alumni films profiled for the first five episodes were:
"Une Vie Mervielleuse" by Sean Broadbent
"Revelar Los Enlaces: A Brooks Institute Student Documentary of Chile" represented by Jeff Johns,
Amanda Reyes and Marina Dominguez
"Morton" by Johnny Bishop
"Jessica" by Brent Rumble
"Valhalla" by Jacob Strunk
"Cabbie" by Glynn Beard and Steve Gelder
"Broken" by Doug Conant
"Heard" by Mia Shimabuku
"D. On Darox and Linda the Fox" by Melina Pizano and Simara Sousa
"Pique" by Hayden Johnson
"Spare Me!" by Chris Okula and Gregory Zobel

Filming for the next series of episodes will feature more Brooks Institute student and alumni films. The group expects to deliver an hour of programming per week after the pilot premieres.

"After the first round of filming, the students couldn’t wait to start lining up and filming the next series of episodes,” said Glynn Beard, executive producer and Brooks Institute film program director. “They scheduled it almost immediately after wrapping up the first lineup."

Students of every level are participating in the production and learning a lot in the process.

"I'm still only a first year student, but the education and learning that I've had here at Brooks has been intense, fast and exponential,” said Zobel. "I've learned so much about film making and how to successfully execute a production, without which, directing this show would be impossible."
