BROOKS INSTITUTE VISIONS GALLERY HOSTS FACULTY MEMBER & PHOTOGRAPHER, PAUL MYERS' UNSETTLED VENTURA, Calif. – (June 30, 2008) – Brooks Institute and the Marriott Beach Hotel in Ventura, California will be hosting faculty member and photographer, Paul Myers’ exhibit, Unsettled. There will be an artist’s reception on Thursday, July 24, 2008 from 5:00 – 7:30pm at the Brooks Institute Visions Gallery located on the lobby floor of the Ventura Beach Marriott, 2055 Ventura Beach Boulevard. This exhibit is a series of questions seeking to understand Unsettled, the eeriness of everyday life through daily experiences and interactions. This is the unsettled view of the photographer. Paul Myers’ background is in documentary photography, but with this body of work there is a shift, a departure in style. Myers’ previous work as a photojournalist found the visual story by asking questions of the people through his camera. Though traces of this style are evident in his work through the narrative, now the questions being asked are a personal search for understanding. Walking through these images of everyday life, viewers are inspired to ask their own questions. Paul Myers is a faculty member of the Visual Journalism Program at Brooks Institute in Ventura, CA. Prior to his arrival at Brooks, Myers worked for a variety of publications including newspapers in Freeport, Il and Marysville, CA. He also worked with El Andar, a bilingual magazine that covered cultural events and news issues concerning the Latino Community in the United States and Latin America. Since arriving at Brooks his work has focused on daily life and religious expression, the latter complemented by his studies at UC Santa Barbara where he received an MA in Religious Studies.
