Mastering Vision Displays Diverse Brooks Graduate Student Photography
Santa Barbara, California -- June 4, 2007 — Graduate students of Brooks Institute will display their work as part of a “Mastering Vision” public exhibit at the school's Santa Barbara Jefferson campus on Sunday June 17 from 3 to 6 PM. A reception will be held. Twenty five 25 photographers will show approximately 100 photographic works that resulted from course assignments, personal work, and from thesis projects. The public is welcome to view the exhibit and talk with the artists who are in the school's Master of Science degree program in Professional Photography. Their work will be displayed in the hallways of the Jefferson campus, located at 1321 Alameda Padres Serra, in Santa Barbara. The presentation will showcase a wide range of styles and will include pictures from Africa and insightful self-portraiture. One student's images portray the practice of rock balancing as performance art, and another's display photos that appeared, in a successful San Francisco community campaign, on billboards and buses throughout the city. The range of tools and processes used vary widely, including pictures made with infrared film as well as photos made with a toy camera. As a way to advance professional skills, or as a way to advance a career, students view the Brooks Institute Master of Science degree program as a great step towards achieving their dreams. Some go on to work as professional photographers, and others pursue a career in teaching. Either way, the degree provides ample opportunity to achieve life-fulfilling work. All college graduates who have a bachelor's degree, regardless of their field of study, are eligible for the graduate program, but most incoming students are required to take some undergraduate coursework. These additional courses are designed to help new students develop the photo skills necessary to successfully complete courses at this level. Because the Master of Science degree program's courses are conducted on weekends, the program is available to those who work fulltime. Many students commute to the program from other regions of California and from around the nation. The Brooks Institute photography exhibit is free and open to the public.
