BROOKS INSTITUTE PARTNERS WITH LEICA CAMERAS, INC. FOR STUDENT DOCUMENTARY TRIP TO INDIA SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – (May 27, 2008) – Brooks Institute announced today that Leica Cameras, Inc. will sponsor the annual 2008 documentary trip. Selected Brooks students will spend 7 weeks in South India from November to December 2008. Leica Camera will provide 26 students with Leica M8 digital rangefinders cameras and various, interchangeable Leica M lens. Additionally, Leica is providing training to the students before departing on their trip. Each year, the Visual Journalism program of Brooks Institute of Photography offers an international documentary trip for interested visual journalism, professional photography and film students. The class, which is staged in a different international location each year, is limited to those applicants who demonstrate solid understanding of photographic story-telling, the ability to work independently, and who reflect sensitivity to their roles as ambassadors. In November and December 2008, the 26 selected students and Visual Journalism instructor Paul Myers will spend seven weeks in South India to chronicle the people, life and culture of the region. Upon their return, the students will create projects to showcase their experiences from this trip, including a multi-media presentation, a print exhibition, web site, book, and a DVD.
