BROOKS INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES CONSOLIDATION OF CAMPUSES
Montecito Campus to Close; Endowments to be Made for Student Scholarships, Faculty Development

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – (May 20, 2008) – Brooks Institute announced today that at the end of June it will relocate the program currently being taught at its Montecito campus, as well as the nine staff and operations personnel at that campus, to its other three campus locations in Santa Barbara. The Montecito campus, a 79-year old former residence, will be held for sale. All Brooks Institute programs will continue to be offered at other campuses, and no positions will be eliminated as a result of the decision.

“The decision to sell the Montecito facility was a difficult but necessary decision,” said Dr. Roger C. Andersen, president of Brooks Institute. “This beautiful old building is an icon in the history of the college, but it has never been very functional as a teaching facility. Moreover, two detailed facility analyses conducted at the Montecito campus in the past six months reflect that the facility is now facing very expensive issues related to its on-going upkeep and basic infrastructure. With only one program currently offered at the campus, selling the Montecito facility was the most responsible business decision, and will ultimately serve our students and faculty better by putting all of our programs in facilities that are better suited for teaching numbers of students.”

A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the Montecito facility will be reinvested in the school’s future through student scholarship and faculty development endowment funds.

The college plans to maintain a strong programmatic presence in Santa Barbara, offering its nationally-recognized Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Photography as well as Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography. Brooks Institute also offers Bachelor of Arts degree programs in Visual Journalism, Film & Video Production and Graphic Design at its Ventura campuses.

A special tribute reception will be held in late June to recognize the historic role of Montecito in the college’s 62-year history. All faculty, staff, students, alumni, and members of the school’s program advisory committees will be invited to attend.

“Brooks Institute continues to provide world-renowned education in photography and film, is a vibrant member of the community, and is financially strong,” said Andersen. “We remain committed to building on our outstanding heritage as innovators in the field of arts education.”
