Film + Specialty Courses
Film ClassesFilm courses that offer practical career trainingThe mission of Brooks' Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film or a Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting degree programs is to help prepare students to pursue career opportunities in the media that involve motion picture development, production and postproduction. Our California Film classes are taught in classrooms and labs that give our students real-life experiences. They learn on industry-current equipment that many of today's professional filmmakers use. And when they graduate, our students can be prepared to pursue new opportunities with the practical experience and valuable portfolio pieces that employers are looking for. Here are just a few of the specialty Film classes available to students at Brooks Institute: Visual StorytellingThis Film course is an examination concerning the basic principles of visual storytelling. Weekly assignments teach plot structure, character development and dialogue. Students are expected to write dialogue, develop outlines, treatments and character histories, which are critiqued weekly by both the instructor and fellow classmates. Directing & ScreenwritingThis Film class gives students the opportunity to complete a screenplay and then submit it for selection for production. As well as reviewing films each week, students are expected to prepare ideas for their own portfolio work. The course also teaches directing techniques such as blocking, camera moves, casting, and correct rehearsal procedures. Students also work on scenes that are videotaped and discussed. Advanced Digital PostThis Film course represents an in-depth study in computer motion graphics in a two-dimensional environment. Creating dynamic designs using composites of multiple layers with unlimited numbers of elements and special effects is the focus of the class. The student should become familiar with the powerful special effects and the 2D animation software Adobe After-Effects. Advertising Film Production IThis Film class involves developing and planning a 30 second commercial for advertising. The course puts emphasis on writing, storyboard development, working with ad agencies and creating the best concept to sell the product being advertised. History and theory of the advertising commercial format is also explored to gain an insight into current trends. Interested in learning more about our Film and Screenwriting classes?
