Paul R. Meyer has been a full-time faculty member in the Still Photography department at Brooks Institute since 1990. He currently specializes in the area of Advertising but has taught large format techniques, introduction to lighting people and studio tabletop classes. Paul has also taught abroad as a faculty member on Semester at Sea and at a professional workshop at the Light and Life Academy in India. Prior to teaching at Brooks, he worked for and with some of the best commercial photographers in New York and Los Angeles, including staff positions with Hiro, Eric Meola and Larry Dale Gordon. This professional contact has enabled Paul to develop a network for assisting students and graduates in finding internships and employment in a number of prestigious photographic studios including those of Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, Michael Thompson, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein, Mary Ellen Mark, Joyce Tenneson and Irving Penn. Mr. Meyer has two bachelor of arts degrees; the first is in Liberal Studies from the University of Hawaii. His second is in Professional Photography from Brooks Institute, where he was recognized with the Outstanding Achievement Award, Brooks' highest honor. Paul also received his MS from Brooks. His unique thesis project has been featured in American Photo and On Campus magazines and has resulted in a solo photographic exhibition at Brooks and as part of a group show at the Contemporary Arts Forum in Santa Barbara.
