Faculty Bio

Before turning his focus on his personal work, Roger worked with some of Hollywood's elite, including George Lucas, Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon. He also collaborated to create imagery for companies like Kodak, Ford, Neutrogena, Proactiv, DirecTV, Buick and Pier 1 Imports.

When asked about his approach to photography, Roger Homrich's response may come as a surprise, "Technique is never what makes an image - it is simply how an image is made. I spent my early years in photography simply portraying things beautifully, without ever listening to what my subjects had to say."

Over 10,000 of Roger's negatives were thrown away as a result of that realization. He found the action necessary in order to free himself from his past. Roger then excitingly began to pursue a new style of photography that put concept and intention at the forefront of his imagery. "I believe powerful images speak for a scene; they say what the subject cannot. They move beyond the visual, and touch emotional tones," Homrich states.

In 2008, Roger became the first known person to complete a solo, cross-country trek spanning the entire length of Death Valley National Park; walking alone for over two weeks and 225 miles. His history-making story and photographs will be presented in the book, A Walk Through the Valley Death, due out in 2009.
