Faculty Bio

As a film editor, CECILY RHETT's dramatic feature credits include HBO´s STRANGER INSIDE, produced by Effie T. Brown and Michael Stipe, which premiered at Sundance and was nominated for 3 Independent Spirit awards. Rhett also edited the Lion's Gate comedy BUT I´M A CHEERLEADER, which premiered at Toronto and also screened at Sundance, as well as the Sundance Channel drama ALCHEMY. She is currently at work cutting her fourth feature, THE PRESENCE, starring Mira Sorvino, Shane West, Justin Kirk and Tony Curran. Her admittedly eclectic editing resume also includes A&E's “Biography”, ABC's “The Bachelor”, FOX's “Hell's Kitchen”, music videos, and a documentary on the making of the Oliver Stone film “Natural Born Killers”. Rhett is also an alumnus of Film Independent's Screenwriters and Directors Labs and has been a finalist for the Sundance Institute's Screenwriters Lab. Her short film FORWARD starring Amy Ryan, that she wrote, directed and edited, premiered at the 2007 SXSW Film Festival and screened at festivals worldwide including Raindance and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Rhett received a Master's Degree in Film Production from the University of Southern California, which she attended on a California Graduate Fellowship. Her thesis film, DOG BITES DELAY MAIL, screened at the DGA and aired on PBS. Prior to USC, Rhett graduated Phi Beta Kappa, cum laude from Columbia University in New York with a B.A. in Russian Language and Literature. She is an Associate Member of the Writer's Guild of America, West.
