Lloyd Sigler
Lloyd is President and Creative Director of SiglerGroup, Inc., a firm specializing in advertising and design through print, broadcast and new media. He has created successful projects and campaigns for a wide range of clients and industries including large national and multi-national corporations, as well as smaller regional companies. With a career spanning over 25 years in the advertising and design fields, his work includes substantial print advertising, direct mail, broadcast advertising, corporate identity/branding, collateral, as well as new media and web site development and design. His advertising and design work has garnered dozens of regional and national awards. In addition to his creative background, he has also owned and operated an award-winning typography studio specializing in fine typography for advertising, annual reports and book publishing. Mr. Sigler serves as the Program Director of the Graphic Design program at Brooks Institute where he also teaches a variety of design, advertising, technology and typography courses. Lloyd is a member of AIGA.
Don French
Owner of French and Associates, a graphic design firm founded in 1977. The company provides design services that include identity and branding, annual reports, corporate collateral, environmental design, and print advertising. Firm members have won awards from the Art Directors Club of New York, Communication Arts Magazine, and the Society of Publication Designers. Mr. French holds a BA Degree in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara and is pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at Antioch University, Yellow Springs, Ohio. He currently teaches digital illustration classes at Brooks Institute, has taught design at Santa Barbara City College, and has lectured at University of California Extension.
Dave Carlson
In 1991, Dave founded Gateway Arts, an award-winning strategic branding and design firm. During his time at the helm, Dave worked with Fortune 500 companies, biotech, healthcare and technology companies, and retail and sports manufacturers, earning a reputation for producing stellar results on time and on target. In 2005, Marfred Industries, the largest West Coast packaging manufacturer, acquired Gateway Arts (now named The Vyant Group) and Degrees Inc. Today Dave is the Principal and Creative Director of The Vyant Group, a unique branding, marketing and package manufacturing agency. Dave has become the leader and driving force behind Vyant. In addition to supervising the company’s day-to-day operations, Dave sources the creative talent and fuels the culture to provide a motivating and energetic environment. As Creative Director who champions his clients’ goals and objectives, Dave supervises all activity related to client brand development, strategic marketing and communication programs.
David Litschel
David is a noted educator, photographer, author, and consultant to industry and education. He is the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Brooks Institute with campuses in Santa Barbara and Ventura, California. Prior to taking his current administrative role, he was a faculty member at Brooks Institute for over 15 years. During that time he created two courses, Architectural Photography and Web Site Development and taught those and other courses. He is the co-author of two books on photography, Black and White Photography published by Delmar a division of Thompson Learning, Inc., now in its second edition, and Digital Photographic Capture published by Focal Press in 2005. He has been active in many professional organizations, including serving as President and a member of the Board of Directors of the Photo Imaging Education Association (PIEA). David is a member of the Advisory Board for Photographer’s Forum magazine, and has served on the Board of Directors of Photoaccess.com, in Seattle, Washington. David earned the Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Michigan and the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Colorado where he was awarded Phi Beta Kappa.
Mike Szanger
Michael is one of the employee owners of V3 (formerly Ventura Printing). He currently oversees the sales department, marketing efforts and much of the product development at the company. Over the past 15 years with V3 he has helped the company grow from a small local printing company to a much larger regional company serving markets from Los Angeles to the Bay Area with an emphasis on direct marketing. In 2008 V3 was named to one of Fortune's lists of fastest growing companies in America and they plan to continue expanding their list of services and geographic reach in the coming year. Michael has served as a guest speaker at numerous colleges and universities including Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UCSB, Ventura Community College, Pierce College, and Santa Monica Community College. In addition to serving on the Brooks Institute Advisory board Michael also serves on a national board for the Printing Industries of America.
Brett Piatt
Brett holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly, SLO. Since graduation, he has worked as both an Engineer and a UNIX system administrator. His degree from Cal Poly and both career fields supplied an indispensable technical foundation, providing analytical thinking and creative problem solving. In 2004 he switched gears completely to get back to his passion: art. He quit his technical job and began freelancing as a graphic designer. He is now managing the Production Art department at Patagonia, Inc. in Ventura, CA.
