Santa Barbara Film Festival

SBIFF Student Competition

Each year Brooks Institute sponsors the Director Panel. This panel of “Directors on Directing” is where notable industry professionals come together for lively, informative and revealing discussions. Each year the world’s most renowned directors discuss their firms, their craft and their challenges.

Brooks Institute also has an elective: FLM300 Special Tops This popular elective is taken by Pro Photo, Film and Visual Journalism students who film video and stills for all 11 days of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival with access to every event, which includes celebrity tributes, like Cate Blanchett and Oprah, Directors, Writers, Producers and Visual Effects Supervisors who are nominated for an Academy Award this year and many more festival film and community events. Brooks is now in post-production with our footage from the festival and working through the hundreds of stills that our Brooks students shot. Brooks looks forward to sharing these images and videos by the end of the spring semester. It was great fun to see our students around town at all the events in their Brooks Institute FILM/CREW sweatshirts. Nothing like a film crew with cameras and sound equipment to get the crowd asking questions. The red carpet was especially notable!

10-10-10 Student Screenwriting and Filmmaking Competition in its 11th year, is a competition for high school and college students. The competition takes 5 high school and 5 college teams and gives them 10 days from start to delivery to produce a film for competition. Our students prepped; shot and edited their film written by Skye Morse-Hodgson and directed by Aya Ghosn called "The Way We Were" which took home the top prize in the 10-10-10. Brooks was all thrilled that for the 4th year in a row Brooks won this competition. A large contingent of staff, faculty, family and friends were at the Arlington Theater to cheer on the team. Aya's video cannot go up on the website as Brooks has one year to enter it in additional film festivals. However, here is an interview about last year's winner of 10-10-10 film:
