Susan Bloom earned her BA in Classical Studies at Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass., in 1986 and a MFA in Radio-TV-Film Production from the University of Texas, Austin in 1993.

Bloom worked in a variety of positions in the film industry in Los Angeles. She went on to be the editor on two theatrically released feature documentaries, "Tracking Down Maggie" and "Heidi Fleiss: Hollywood Mada" and she line produced a third, "Fetishes," for HBO. She also worked in post-production on network TV dramas and narrative films, and as a camera operator on documentaries, among other production and post-production positions.

Bloom’s own work has aired on PBS, has been written up in Variety and other publications, and played in festivals both nationally and internationally, including the Florida Film Festival and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. She has received a federal grant to work on multiple projects for the National Park Service regarding endangered plant species and species restoration on the Channel Islands off the coast of Southern California. She also continues to direct, produce, write, shoot and edit documentary, corporate, and commercial projects for a wide array of clients. She joined Brooks Institute in 2003 and served as chair of the Visual Journalism program from 2007 – 2011. She currently teaches full time in documentary filmmaking.
